By Kathy Wallace
Somewhere over the rainbow … the theme song from my favorite childhood movie.
Not only does the song bring back memories, but this umbrella brings back very fond memories as well, of my mother. My mother kept this umbrella in her car for rainy days going to work, church, and shopping.
The umbrella may be neutral in color, though it is as bright as the colors in the rainbow to me!
I now keep the umbrella in my car for the same purposes my mother did, although the umbrella is a personal, cherished memory and connection to my mother. This umbrella has lasted many, many years and is strong and protecting just like my mother was. It has weathered rain and wind and has a few fragile places in the nylon, but it opens like a charm every time!
On Mother’s Day, as every day since the loss of my mother, not a day goes by that I do not say, “I love you mom, I miss you, but you are with me always.” I still hear her voice, her words of wisdom, and feel her love and her presence within my soul.
The Real-Real Behind the Scenes
Editor’s Note: And if there’s not an umbrella handy, maybe there’ll be vintage hooded hair dryers on the street to protect your hair from unexpected rain, ha! Robin and Kathy lead our Forever 51 homage to our mothers (and their awesome gadgets!) this Mother’s Day month. We are digging it!
A Little Background Music
A timeless classic in black-and-white … until Dorothy lands somewhere in the middle of the rainbow Technicolor Land of Oz.
