This was a no-brainer. As soon as Marcie asked me who my fashion icon is, Ann-Margret immediately popped into my head. Yes, there are obvious reasons, red hair, edgy style, etc., but as I researched her on the web I realized there are other reasons that I like her style, and like who she is.
Now you know who my fashion icon is, but here is the why: She is a good person, a loyal person, and she is true to who she is. Her style is sweet girl next door with a dark, wild side. The result is a mix of elegance and fantasy, with a dash of sexpot. She emulated a 60s vibe in her rise to stardom, and now possesses old-school glamour. As I write this post on my 51st birthday, my wish is that I can embrace aging gracefully, as Ann-Margret has.
I love this photo! The style is ALL 1960s and look at those shoes, I’m intrigued…
If you haven’t seen Viva Las Vegas or Kitten with a Whip you are TOTALLY missing out!
This photo embodies a 1960s vibe, from the headband to the cat-eye makeup.
There are several photos of her in yellow. Note to self: Redheads look good in yellow, must find more wardrobe pieces in yellow….
She is on fire in this yellow dress! The buttery hue perfectly complements any ginger, and just look at those curves, UGH—amazing!
As I researched Ann-Margret, I found out some interesting facts:
- Bob Mackie was her costume designer for her Las Vegas show.
- During the Vietnam War, she toured with the USO to entertain U.S. troops.
- In November 1972, she fell off of a 22-foot platform and broke several bones in her face, had to have her jaw wired shut and was in a coma for 3 days.
- She has been married to her husband for over 50 years, until he passed this last June.

Channeling Ann-Margret
I had a great time channeling Ann-Margret. The jacket was one of my Goodwill finds, and has been in my closet just waiting for this photo shoot!
I bought the shoes and purse at Cato several seasons ago. Black heels should be a staple in every woman’s wardrobe. They stay classy and never go out of style.
